A World Heritage Site, Chusonji is a Buddhist head temple in Tohoku, 8 km from Ichinoseki city in Iwate Prefecture.

The temple was built from 1105 until 1126 by the first lord of Fujiwara clan, Kiyohara Fujiwara. While examining the coffin of the 4th lord, Yasuhiro Fujiwara, some seeds of lotus were found.

The seeds bloomed into flowers in 1998 which was named as “Chusonji lotus”.

Enjoy the natural scenery along the slope, Tsukimi zaka, which is lined with cedar trees, a couple centuries old!
