One of the most beautiful architectures in Kyoto is Ginkakuji, built in 1482 as Ashikaga Yoshimasa’ (Shogun) Villa. Ginkakuji was attempted to be covered in silver as an imitation of the Golden Pavilion, however, it remains as a wood based two-story structure that preserves the statue of Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy as well as Jizo, the Guardian of Children. The garden’s carefully formed pile of sand resembles Mt. Fuji and wave shaped sands heighten the views all through full moon.
