Odawara Castle (Odawara-jo) is a large-scale structure established in 1495 by the daimyo Hojo Soun, successed by the generations of the Hojo family, and surrendered by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the 16th century. When the political power transferred from Edo Shogunate to the Meiji government in the late 19th century, the castle was demolished and officially declared as the symbol of samurai. The trench and stone wall still remain as they were in the old times.
