Oosaki Hachimangu, a national treasure was built by Date Masamune in 1607 and has been the guardian divinity of the Date family since then. The architectural style of this structure is derived from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. A famous festival, “Donto Matsuri” is celebrated every year on January 14th where visitors and people join a parade to the shrine. Although “omikuji” (fortune telling paper stip) are usually white, due to the black lacquer design of the shrine, there are some black omikujis sold here.
