Fukuoka (福岡市) is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture. It is located on the northern shore of the island of Kyushu. On the Kyushu island, Fukuoka is the most populous city. It is the prime city with a metropolitan area. Fukuoka is an industrialized city which was designated as a city on April 1, 1971 by government ordinance.
It is the sixth largest city of Japan with heavy population. Fukuoka has a moist subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid while winters are cool with gentle breeze. The climate throughout the year is close to cloudy and very pleasant.
Fukuoka has been given the title of “Most Dynamic City” by Newsweek in July 2006. It has also been selected as one of the “Most Livable Cities”. Fukuoka is a place excellent shopping places, delicious food, comfortable commute links, historically and culturally rich museums, beautiful green spaces and an open environment which caters tourists every need.
