How to convince Japanese people about Islam – Part 2
It is common for Japanese people, especially young ones to assume they are not so religious compared to the people in the West or the Middle East. Therefore, for ones who have less religious encounters, it may be a little difficult for you, as a Muslim to explain why you take certain actions.
Below is an explanation you can use to convince curious Japanese people when just saying “because it is written in the Quran” or “because Allah says so” is not enough.
Acknowledging the notion of how Islam puts an emphasis on modesty and not acting upon desires may let Japanese people smoothly understand certain teachings of Islam.
Last time, we discussed about why women have to cover their hair. The question this time is…
Why do Muslims fast?
Although a lot of Japanese people know that Muslims fast, many misunderstand that “Ramadan” means fasting. First explain that Ramadan is a sacred month in which people fast and suppress their desires. Then tell those, when rich people fast, they are able to experience the pains of the poor and be grateful for what they have.
This month makes you realize how lucky you are to have everything. Japanese people also value the feelings of gratitude so they will able to relate to this.
Hope this article enhances cultural understanding between Japanese people and Muslims!
We will discuss about why men can marry four wives in the next article. Please look forward to it 🙂
